I was born in Milan in 1957, married, three children. I have been teaching Corporate finance and Bank management at the University of Trento for more than thirty years. I have authored publications on bond valuation, bank risk management and SME finance. Here are my academic CV and my publication list.
I designed and developed risk management software in a start-up company founded with ex students in 1993, now part ot the Thema Consulting Group. From 2005 to 2015 I took active part in the debate on SME financing in Italy as principal investigator in a State-funded research project and from my blog. From 2006 I promoted the adoption of the XBRL digital format for financial reporting in Italy. In 2009 I started the Business Point project, aimed at providing advice to small firms in financial distress, continued in 2015 as an initiative promoted by the Verona Prefecture.
My current interests are bank crisis management, Fintech and new bank business models.
This site is the abridged English version of my site (in Italian) pane-e-finanza.it. Here I present ideas and results from current research projects and my policy positions on hot banking issues.
In my free time I listen to Brasilian music and try to play some of it with my 7-string guitar.

With the approval of the Decree Law 99 of 25 June 2017, the Italian Government finalised the plan to resolve the crisis of Banca Popolare di Vicenza and Veneto Banca (V&V). The Ministry of Economy and Finance, acting on the proposal of the Bank of Italy, put the two banks into compulsory administrative liquidation ("liquidazione coatta amministrativa"). After a long incubation period, during which various attempts had been tried to recover V&V as a going concern, the definitive solution came by surprise as an exception to EU rules that would prescribe resolution as the standard remedy to a bank insolvency, in accord with the 2014 Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (BRRD).
